Third to sixth classes were delighted to welcome Eddie Lenihan to our school this week. Eddie told some stories from the local area and some from further afield. As always, the children were enthralled. We are lucky to have such a renowned storyteller living in our community and we always look forward to his visits.

Seachtain na Gaeilge
We have been celebrating ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ this week ar scoil. All classes have been engaged in activities to promote the Irish language as well as our Irish culture.  We are encouraging everyone to use their ‘cúpla focal’ in class and at break times. Pupils who have really impressed during the week were presented with ‘Gaeilgeoir na Seachtaine certs’ during Assembly today.  Our ‘Lá Glas’ was an opportunity for everyone to ‘wear the green’ and get ready for our national celebration this weekend. Pupils from all classes enjoyed participating in our ‘Seachtain na Gaeilge’ Art competition.   using a sean fhocal as a theme for their picture.

Pupils involved in Irish dancing also practiced their dancing for a ‘taispéantas’ during Assembly on Thursday.  The musicians also practiced their tunes for a performace too. We hope that all our pupils enjoyed the week and have a greater appreciation of our Irish culture after the week’s activities.
Tá súil againn gur bhain na páisti taitneamh agus tairbhe as na gníomhaíochtaí go léir a bhí ar siúl rith Seachtain na Gaeilge.  Tá seans maith ann go mbeidh meas agus grá acu don teanga Ghaeilge agus don chultúr

World Book Day

Our school celebrated World Book Day on Thursday, March 6th. The children engaged in many “book themed” activities to mark the day. All pupils were invited to dress up as a book character and it was wonderful to see such creativity in their costumes. The Parents’ Association kindly organised prizes for costumes in each class. The winners of these prizes were:
Junior Infants: Fionn Barrett
Senior Infants: Olivia Chernel
First Class: Ronán Ludwig
Second Class: Ava Dillon
Third Class: Manuela Bento Xavier
Fourth Class: Ellie Horgan
Fifth Class: Dylan Corbett
Sixth Class: Patrick Mulkere
The junior classes enjoyed a book character parade while the senior classes took part in book quizzes, book reviews, buddy reading and fifth and sixth classes even made their own books! Pupils were also awarded book tokens to celebrate an excellent effort in their reading.
Junior Infants: Michael McGann
Senior Infants: Kealan Dillon & Jack Tuohey
First Class: Hannah Collins
Second Class: Rita Mulkere
Third Class: Sadie McMahon
Fourth Class: Hubert Jasinski & Annie Murphy
Fifth Class: Gearóid McNamara & Ryan Holian
Sixth Class: Henry O’ Shea
All pupils were given a World Book Day voucher which they can use to buy their own book. We hope that everyone had a great day and the most important message from World Book Day is to keep reading!
