Hot School Meals at Crusheen NS
We are delighted to partner with The Lunch Bag as part of the Government’s Hot School Meals Programme. This initiative ensures that every child in our school receives a hot, nutritious meal each day.
All meals are carefully prepared to meet the Healthy Ireland Nutrition Standards for Hot School Meals, as well as guidelines from the European Food Safety Authority and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland. These standards help to limit fat, salt, sugar, and saturated fat, supporting children’s health, wellbeing, and development. Each meal is balanced and wholesome, and fresh fruit is also provided daily as an added healthy boost.
Ordering Meals
Parents can easily manage their child’s meals using The Lunch Bag App. We encourage all parents to download the app and take a few moments each week to choose meals that best suit their child’s tastes and dietary needs.
Additional Information
Fruit is also provided for small break each day. However, if you wish to send in additional food or snacks for your child, you are very welcome to do so.
Please give your child lunch and drink containers that they can open themselves and use without spilling (not a zipped lunch bag). Ensure your child has an easy to open bottle.
There are children in the school with a severe nut allergy; therefore we ask that children do not bring any foods containing nut or nut extract. In order to cultivate good habits in our pupils, and to reduce disposal costs, children bring home food waste and leftovers in their lunchboxes and the boxes provided by The Lunch Bag. This policy is part of our Green Schools Initiative and also allows parents to be aware of how much a child is actually eating.
Full nutritional information for all meals is available through The Lunch Bag, ensuring complete transparency for parents. The service aims to be inclusive and accommodating of different dietary requirements wherever possible.
Please do not give your child sweets, chocolate, fizzy drinks or crisps for lunch. Chewing gum is not permitted
