We learnt about the various types of engineer and the jobs they do. We decided to undertake some civil engineering work in class. We began designing and making structures that we thought would withstand a mini earthquake! We used spaghetti and marshmallows and designed ways to make the structure sturdy. We also designed bridges from paper and we figured out ways to make the bridge withstand some weight! Thanks to Ben from 3rd class who showed us his robot during engineers week. He told us how he put it together and then he gave us a demonstration of it moving in different directions!

(Teddy washed the jumper) Bhí an geansaí go deas glan. (The jumper was nice and clean) Croch Teidí an geansaí ar an líne. (Teddy hung the jumper on the line) We welcomed four pupils from 2nd class to our classroom to celebrate 'World Thinking Day' on February 22nd. The girls told us about 'The Brownies' and what they do. They recited 'The Brownie Promise' for us as well as singing a song and performing a little dance! Thank you girls!
We have been examining the various play-spaces that can be found in our immediate environment (the school grounds) and in the wider environment (Crusheen village). We located them on our large map of Crusheen. Our Geography trail got us to think a bit more about our play-spaces and the ways in which we put them to good use!
We are using the 'Hour of Code' to develop our Coding and computational skills on the Ipad. The programming sessions are helping us develop our thinking and prediction skills while also improving our patience!
Thanks to Josephine who taught us about the significance of the Cross. We discussed Lent and what it means to us. We finished the session making a cross out of clay. Finally, we had a tasty feast and revised our prayers.
