The school was officially opened in 1979 and extended both in 1994 and 2001. The opening of the new school completed the amalgamation of the three existing schools in the parish, Ballinruan, Drumbaniff and Crusheen. The school caters for school children up to the age of 12y-13y. It is a 6 classroom school. The school building consists of 6 classrooms (including 1 portacabin), toilets, office, 2 resource rooms (small portacabin) , staff room, store-room, boiler house and 2 sheds. There are designated playing areas on the premises; a green fenced soccer court area, basketball court, soft play area, tarmacadam play areas at the front and rear of the school.
The school is located very close to Crusheen Community Centre and Crusheen GAA pitch. The school uses both facilities on a weekly basis.

Fruit for SOS (Small Break)
In addition to hot lunches all pupils are provided with fresh fruit for SOS (Small Break) each day. This healthy snack promotes good eating habits and gives children the energy boost they need to stay focused and active throughout the morning.

Crusheen Play Group
Crusheen Playgroup Ltd. provides a warm welcoming and inclusive preschool environment where children play and develop through a range of age appropriate activities. This preschool service supports children's learning, social development and confidence in preparation for primary school. They participate in the ECCE (free preschool) program and welcome enrolment enquiries throughout the year.
