Ennis Book Week 2019
As part of Ennis Book week 2019, 2nd class pupils went to Ennis Library for a poetry workshop on Friday 1st March. The workshop was facilitated by the poet Mae Leonard. She read some of her poems and taught us about the elements involved in writing poetry; rhyme, rhythm, emotion, words, image, shape and sound. We really enjoyed our visit. One of her poems was titled ‘Treasure’ She wrote it about all the things that fell from her son’s pocket when he was a child many years ago. This is the poem.
Treasure
Between the dirt and dust
A bread crust
A small wheel
A piece of steel
A nail
A pencil
A miniature machine gun
A chunk of chewed chewing gum
A football card
And a dried up worm
In a matchbox three new pence
And four dead ants
All fell from this pants
On washday.
