5th & 6th classes have done some excellent art work of late, developing their drawing and painting skills! Here are but a few examples.
Many thanks to Ms Aisling Murphy who did yoga with our pupils in 5th & 6th classes this week. Pupils greatly enjoyed the experience and are eagerly looking forward to their next session!!
Well done to our brilliant girls in 5th & 6th classes who won the St Flannan's College Camogie Blitz yesterday. 17 schools from all over Clare took part in the 8 a-side competition. The girls had good wins over Quin, Ennis National School, Inagh, Clonmoney and Kilmurray along the way.
The boys also gave a good account of themselves on the day in their competition with a good win over Inagh and competitive games against Quin, Ennis National School, and Gaelscoil Mhíchíl Cíosóg.
As part of Science week 5th & 6th classes visited the annual science exhibition held in University of Limerick. Pupils greatly enjoyed the "Secrets of SuperHero Science" talk held by Dr. Barry Fitzgerald.
What science did Tony Stark need to develop the incredible Iron Man suit? What is the science behind Sue Storm's power of invisibility? Will we ever be able to self-heal as quickly as Wolverine? Are we ready for a super-future?
These were some of the topics and questions explored with pupils greatly enjoying the experience.
Well done to our boys in 4th, 5th & 6th classes who reached the semi-final of the Division 3 football championship. Although unsuccessful on the day the boys can be very proud of their efforts and can look forward with expectation to the games to come this year.
Pupils in 5th & 6th classes have been learning about recount writing, its main features and style. Pupils wrote their own pieces also, a dramatic weather incident from the past!!
Gort Community School Blitz 2018
Thank you to Colm Madden, Gort Community School for inviting 5th & 6th classes to participate in the 2018 GCS Primary Hurling and Camogie Blitz. The students had a great day and met some Galway and Clare hurlers on the day.
We had great fun visiting the new development in the village. We spoke to archaeologist Red Tobin who along with his colleagues showed us the remains of a fulacht fia found in the corner of the site. We learned about what archaeologists do and how they study history through the physical recovery and analysis of material.
Well done to 5th & 6th class who performed 'Shotgun' as Gaeilge for assembly on Friday last. Pupils gave a brilliant performance bringing the house down on the day!!!
A huge welcome back to 5th & 6th classes in what promises to be a very busy year ahead. We're already looking forward to the cross country trials coming up very soon along with the boys and girls football championships. Also coming up will be the Science Exhibition, held in University of Limerick and we also hope to meet some of the archaeologists who are currently investigating and digging out in the new housing development just getting underway in the village.
So full steam ahead!!
