We had great fun watching our plants grow over the past two months. Each morning we checked to see how they were getting on. We were busy watering them too! Yesterday we got to taste the salad leaves, spinach and radish. We all agreed they tasted good 😊.
Our theme for the past fortnight was space. In Aistear we had to build a rocket, become astronauts and go on a journey to the moon. In science we made paper rockets and we had a competition to see whose rocket went the furthest, Kayden was our winner! In geography we learned about the sun, moon and stars as well as day and night. This led to the beautiful art we created. We also designed our own aliens. In history we learned that the first man to walk on the moon was Neil Armstrong. We read a really good book in English called "Aliens in Underpants Save the World". Finally we drew our own space pictures in our art sketch pads.
For the month of April we were learning all about our village, Crusheen. We learned the name of our townland or Estate and we looked at all the buildings and features of our village. "Construction/The Building Site" was our theme for Aistear. In role play we became builders and we built our village, in geography we mapped our journey from the school to the new estate being built, we also became architects and we designed a house for Ms Darcy! We even went on a walk to the building site and we saw some builders in action.
Last week in science we all got the opportunity to plant our own seeds. Each pod were given a different seed - beetroot, salad leaves, radish, spinach & peas. We began by putting the soil bomb in water (some of us thought the soil bomb looked like a cookie!). It was amazing to see it dissolve in the water. Then we added our seeds. We placed them on the classroom window so they would get lots of light. Every morning we are excited to see if they have grown. So far the radish seeds, salad leaves and peas have started to grow. This is all thanks to the Innocent Big Grow programme.
Today we had an outdoor class! We wrote about spring in our copies and we played some phonic games. We hope the days stay sunny.
It is great to be back to school especially with this glorious sunshine. We are making the most of it - we went on a nature walk to the park to see some signs of spring.
During week three of our home school work in January our whole school held an artefact week. We had to find the oldest thing in our house or within our 5km radius. Each one of us presented our item to our class on our Zoom call.
